Back in the saddle
For the fourth time, I've signed up to return to my pre-Syracuse University position as a general assignment reporter at KPIX TV, the CBS Owned & Operated station in San Francisco. My goals are the same as on previous trips:
- see what's new in the local TV news business - story ideas, technology, how resources are used;
- see what's new in San Francisco;
- see old friends;
- see if I can still do it.
Thanks to the generosity of KPIX management, I'll be reporting for a week, starting on Monday, 13June2016. This blog will be updated with posts detailing what it takes to be a local television news reporter, videographer and editor all in one - a multi-media journalist or MMJ. That's the way Newhouse Broadcast and Digital Journalism students do it, so that's the way I'll do it. I hope to share frustrations and successes in the form of tips young MMJs can use to better understand their jobs and to make their jobs easier.
So come on back next week and see what's new in San Francisco local TV news.
